The Serengeti and Ngorongoro

From ‘Maya ya Simba’ the rock where simba was born, to baboons finishing off a Leopard, the wildlife in the Serengeti was so much more eventful than what I have seen in any other national park (Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Manyara). We had three days in Serengeti, which allowed for a full day game drive followed by an early-morning game drive the next day. We were able to go to distant areas to see wildlife play out with no one but us being present.

Maya ya Simba – the place that was used as inspiration for the home of the lions, the place where Simba was born, in The Lion King.

The Ngorongoro crater – in August where everything has dried out. A month before the same view would have been entirely green.

Lions resting on a rock, one of the sights that has made the Serengeti so famous.

Serengeti Tanzania Africa Leopard up Close
Leopards are not uncommon to see at a distance, but we were quite lucky to have one come up close enough for a picture like this. Often they are resting in trees and all you can see is their tales dangling…
Serengeti Tazania Lion Hunting
The lion was hunting for Zebras. Unfortunately for the lion the Zebras were to fast for it this time around. However another lion had just hunted down a gazella nearby and they ended up sharing that with the kids.

These were the cubs (I count 8) that needed to be fed.

Leopard hunted up into tree by lion, Serengeti, Tanzania, Africa August 2014
Leopards are good at climbing trees and like to go there to hunt. In this case however, the leopard was forced to climb the tree by a nearby group of lions
Serengeti, Tanzania, Leopard Dies, August 2014
Notice the Leopard in the tree. It was hunted up there by I lion. Later on baboons came by. Feeling threatened, the leopard climbed high all the way up to a thin branch (as seen on this photo). Under normal circumstances the Leopards are dangerous to baboons, so to kill it, they shook the branch until the branch broke, the leopard fell down, and died.
